An increased creatine kinase (CK) level and the doctor wants to determine whether its due to skeletal or heart muscle damage.
Main purpose of the CK MB test:
To distinguish between skeletal muscle & heart muscle damage;
Sometimes to determine if a heart attack has occurred (if the troponin test is not available)
