2D Echo Services
Clinico 2d Echo Services at Mulund, Bhandup & Thane
Clinico’s 2D Echo scan services can be availed at our Bhandup centre, Mulund East & West centres and our upcoming Thane centre from Monday to Saturday. The tests are conducted with the help of the latest machines, and the reports are checked by MD Doctors.
What is 2D Echo?
2D Echo (2-Dimensional Echocardiogram) is a safe, non-invasive and painless test that helps diagnose various heart diseases and issues. It involves the use of ultrasound waves to capture images of the heart.
These waves are generated through a small, microphone-like device called a transducer. The transducer comprises a special kind of crystal named piezoelectric crystal that creates sound waves when differing voltage is applied.
The generated ultrasound waves reflect off varying tissues of the heart in the direction in which the device is pointed. These waves are then captured back by the crystal in the receiving mode & transformed into electrical signals that help produce images of the heart on a monitor.
There are various kinds of 2D Echo tests, with Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) being the most common type. Other well-known types include Stress Echocardiography & Transoesophageal Echocardiography.
2D ECHO Test Purpose
The 2D Echo test helps provide doctors with an improved understanding of the following:
- Size & Shape of the heart and its chambers
- Pericardium (sac surrounding the heart)
- Heart muscles
- Heart valves
- Blood clots
- Congenital heart defects
2D ECHO Test Procedure
Let’s check out the procedure of Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) – the most common type of 2D Echo test that is used in most cases.
To begin with, a handheld transducer that is portable to the bedside of a patient is used during the test.
A technician will place the head of the transducer that transmits ultrasound waves on your chest at different positions. Images of the heart will start generating immediately, providing specific views of the heart.
The doctor may ask you to stay still, breathe in and out in a slow manner, hold your breath, or lie on your left side. The technician will keep moving the transducer until the doctor is satisfied with the images produced. The test duration is generally 30-60 minutes.
2D ECHO Test Preparation
No preparation is required before the TTE test. However, stress echocardiography & transoesophageal echocardiography tests necessitate fasting for a few hours as prescribed by the doctor. Information on allergies and ongoing medications & supplements also need to be provided.
2D ECHO Test Results
The test results of 2D Echo provide an excellent idea about the heart’s functioning, structure, shape and movement of heart muscles, valves & chambers.
The results can help diagnose various heart problems that may need a consultation with a cardiologist for accurate diagnosis and subsequent course of treatment.
